Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Bug Theatre/Scorpion Safari

August 8 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free with Park Fee

We’re setting up our version of the silver screen near the back patio of the Nature Center tonight. Once it’s dark, we’ll turn on the spotlight and enjoy the show that unfolds, as all manner of arthropods are drawn to the light. We’ll even have a few “creepy-crawlies” on hand to look at. Plus, conditions permitting, we’ll take a short night hike out on our Overton trail to look for scorpions with a UV light. This is a great opportunity to ask your bug-related questions, learn about unique and interesting animals like palo verde beetles, whipscorpions, tarantulas and giant desert centipedes, and get a good, close-up look at any insect guest stars that decide to join us.  Family friendly program. Restrooms are available nearby, but please bring plenty of water. NO pets, please.

Park admission: $10 exact change (or annual pass). Pay at the self-pay station at the entry booth.

MEETING LOCATION: Back patio, Nature Center.

No registration required.

PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parksis the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online before coming to the park.
