Tucson Bird Alliance: Southeast Arizona Birding Festival – Madera Canyon in the Evening Field Trip

This is a unique opportunity to enjoy the beauty of evening monsoon birding in the iconic Madera Canyon.

We’ll enter the canyon just before sunset and explore the canyon for birds as they finish up their day and then try to find nocturnal birds like Elf Owl, Whiskered Screech-Owl, and Mexican Whip-Poor-Will along with other desert critters. This is a great time of year to see all sorts of wildlife activity in the evening. We will not be using playback for night birds so chances of seeing them will be limited, but you never know!

Limited to 9 participants.

Difficulty: Moderate. Short walks on mostly paved roads and some dirt trails with some incline. Will be birding in the dark; bring a flashlight if you have one. Will require good hearing to hear night birds. Bathroom on-site.

Van Field Trip*

Part of the Tucson Bird Alliance’s Southeast Arizona Birding Festival.

There is a $35 non-refundable registration fee for all festival participants that are attending fee based activities: field trips, workshops, and evening programs.

*Van field trips include van transportation, but “Drive Yourself” field trips do not.  A packed lunch, snacks, and drinking water are provided on full-day field trips. A light snack and drinking water are provided on half-day field trips. All Van Trips depart from the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel at Reid Park. “Drive Yourself” field trips will meet on-site at birding locations and you will received detailed directions.
