Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival: IBA Survey Workshop – new eBird protocol

The Arizona Important Bird Areas program is launching a streamlined survey protocol utilizing eBird. The surveys will be stationary, 10 minute counts where all birds seen and heard are added to an eBird checklist. The same locations will be surveyed on every visit to create a dataset over time. Participants will receive a printed protocol document, we will cover the logistics of such a survey and then do a few survey counts together. Participants need to be prepared to walk about a mile over uneven terrain.

Our experienced guides have extensive knowledge of birds and the unique habitat that makes this region special. The festival, presented each April by Friends of the Verde River, is a purpose-driven community benefit organization and 501(c) 3 non-profit working to preserve one of the last perennial flowing rivers in the American Southwest.
