Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Plant Walk
February 26 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Free with Park Fee
Learn about the Sonoran Desert in springtime with a chance to see wildflowers and blooming shrubs. Late fall rains provided a start for the flower season so there may be a continuation of blooms or even a second round for spring. Possible sightings include poppies, lupine, owl’s clover, desert hyacinth, fairy duster, globemallow and more. It is also National Invasive Species Awareness Week so you can learn about invasive plants that disrupt the ecosystem balance, how you can join volunteer efforts in the Valley to restore affected lands and how you can make a difference with your home garden. Ranger Nikki will lead you along a portion of Wagner Trail and campground roads to make an approximate 1.5-mile loop. The trail terrain is mostly flat and level with crushed gravel underfoot and the roads are paved. Wear closed-toe shoes and sun-protective clothing. Water and restrooms are available nearby at the Nature Center and in the group camping area, a short walk from our meeting location.
