Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Guided Reptile Hike

September 12, 2024 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

Free with Park Fee
Look for and learn about reptiles of Sonoran Desert riparian areas during this guided hike with Ranger Eric.

Join Ranger Eric for a guided hike along the Cottonwood Trail to look for reptiles of the Sonoran Desert. Along the way, we will discuss identification tips, their ecological roles, and safety around venomous animals. We will hike 1-2 miles roundtrip on easy grade, but occasionally rocky or uneven ground. Please wear protective clothing and/or sunscreen, wear sturdy footwear, and carry ample water, electrolytes, and snacks for yourself. The hike may be shortened or canceled if extreme heat is forecasted. Restrooms are available at the trailhead.

MEETING LOCATION: Cottonwood Day Use Area, which is accessed from the park’s North Entrance Station. See park map here: https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/assets/1/6/lake-pleasant-8×111.pdf.

Limit 12 participants. To register, please email Ranger Eric at eric.hough@maricopa.gov. When reserving, please provide your name, phone number, and total number of participants. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please email back ASAP so those on the waiting list may be contacted. Registration for this program will close on Tuesday, 9/10.

Please note: Summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The MC Parks website is the best resource for verifying the program’s current status, so please check the program listing prior to departing for your scheduled program.
