Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Desert 101 Hike

Join Ranger Derik on a morning hike through the foothills of the White Tank mountains and learn about the many plants and animals that call the desert home.  

The hike will cover 3.5 miles on sections of the Grey Fox, Ironwood, and Ford Canyon trails. This hike is rated as moderate due to the several inclines over the course of the hike. Plan to walk on rocky and sandy trail it is encouraged that you wear supportive shoes and if inclines or declines are an issue for you take along some trekking poles. Water and bathrooms are not available at the trailhead so please plan ahead.

MEETING LOCATION: Grey Fox trailhead

Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 5 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 8/9/24.

Please note: Summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website is the best resource for verifying the program’s current status, so please check the program listing prior to departing for your scheduled program.
