Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Desert Edibles Plant Hike

Join Ranger Derik on a hike through pristine Sonoran Desert and riparian habitat as you learn about the native edible plants and the native peoples that once called the park home.

The guided hike will cover sections of the Dragonfly and Spur Cross trails through rolling hills and desert washes for 3.5 miles. The hike has steady inclines and declines as well as long sections of the trail with loose rock. Boots are encouraged and if you had trouble with balance hiking poles will come in handy. There is no water in the park so make sure to pack plenty 3 liters is recommended. It also is a good idea to leave a frozen water bottle in your car so at the end of the hike you will have cold ice water. Bathrooms can be found near the meeting location. Please no pets.

MEETING LOCATION: Covered picnic tables/ Spur Cross trailhead

Limit 20 participants. To register, please call Cave Creek Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext.8 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call back ASAP so those on the waiting list may be contacted. Registration for this program will close on 7/25/24.
