Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Desert Edibles Hike

June 22, 2024 @ 7:00 am - 9:30 am

Free with Park Fee
Hike through rare Riparian habitat and amount towering Saguaro as you learn about the many edible native plants that thrive in the harsh desert climate and about the people that once called the Sonoran Desert home.

Join Ranger Derik on a 2.5-mile loop hike of the Metate and Spur Cross trails starting at area 7. The trail is rated as moderate and features rolling hills. The trail itself is mostly flat but some sections can be sandy and or rocky. Throughout the walk the group will take frequent stops to take in the views and talk about the edible and medicinal properties of trees, cacti, and flowers. Because this is a county park we will not be trying and of the plants on our hike as we encourage Leave No Trace principles. Please make sure to bring plenty of water it’s summer in the desert after all. Bathrooms can be found at the trailhead however there is no water in the park so please make sure to bring plenty with you.
