Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Desert Birds and Their Homes

April 10, 2024 @ 8:30 am - 10:30 am

Free with Park Fee

Ranger Nikki will present slides of common birds seen at Usery and some of their nest structures. We will be indoors for approximately 30 minutes and then head outdoors for an easy walk on the trails near the Nature Center to look for birds and the homes they have constructed in cacti, trees and other structures. The ranger will be referencing and using the Merlin bird ID app, so if you are interested in using this yourself, please download the free app at home on wi-fi before coming to the park, including the Bird Pack titled “US: Southwest”. The trails used during the walk include Desert Hawk, Lost Sheep, and the paved road in the campground. The surfaces are mostly flat and even but may include a few areas that are rocky and uneven. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring snacks and plenty of water. Bring a camera, your phone and notebook to log your observations. Restrooms and water are available at the Nature Center.

MEETING LOCATION: Nature Center

Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Usery Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 4 with your name, phone number and number attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on Monday, April 8.
