Tucson Botanical Gardens: Botanical Art in Ink – House Plants

This class is a great introduction to drawing and pen techniques using botany as our main subject. The specific theme for this class is House Plants. The tools and techniques shared in this workshop are beneficial to creating beautiful organic leaves from different house plants. After we explore the breakdown of a variety of plants, we will learn how to use composition to create a final piece of art.

• Contour drawing
• Breaking down subjects into basic shapes
• Variety of Pen Strokes
• Line Control/Hand & Eye Coordination

Please provide your own art materials. List of recommended art materials:

• 2H or 2B pencil, eraser (Streader), kneaded eraser & ruler
• Pens (Copic Multi-liners or Micron) 0.1, 0.3, & 0.5
• 9” x 12” Paper (Illustration board, mixed media paper or sketchbook)
• 8.5” x 11” plain printer paper or sketchbook for warmups
• Photos of house plant varieties (a few reference photos will be sent out before class begins)
