Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Life Along the Gila

December 6, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am

Free with Park Fee

Join Ranger Kevin for a roughly 2-mile hike along the Plant Research Trail and the south bank of the Gila River. We’ll explore the riparian habitat for interesting plants and animals while we discuss the importance of rivers like the Gila to the health and diversity of desert life. The trail is moderately difficult, with stretches of loose rock, sandy soil, and large rocks and other obstacles. Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Hats and sunscreen are also highly recommended. Restrooms and water are available at the Nature Center. NO pets, please.

MEETING LOCATION: Nature Center parking lot, and then we’ll drive over to the Plant Research Trail trailhead.

***PLEASE NOTE: There is ecological restoration work being done in the hike area, so parking and/or sections of the trail may be unavailable and the hike location and/or program theme may change. Ranger will attempt to contact participants if this is the case.***

Limit 12 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 6 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 12/4/23.
