Tucson Audubon Society: AGUIRRE LAKE & BUENOS AIRES NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE Field Trip

December 8, 2023 @ 7:00 am - 12:00 pm

$35 – $50

Registration fee: $35/member, $50/non-member.*

Trip difficulty: Moderate, 2-3 miles on uneven, unpaved terrain, little to no elevation gain, bathrooms and water available.

BANWR offers a wide range of habitats to explore in the winter – restored grasslands, wetlands, and the mixed human habitat around the HQ. Our main location to bird will be sometimes wet/sometimes dry Aguirre Lake just past the refuge headquarters. The walk around the lake bed is just under 1.5 miles and is flat. We’ll hope to find wintering birds such as Northern Harrier, Merlin, Say’s Phoebe, and Vesper Sparrow; if there’s any water, hopefully some ducks, too! Carpooling to location will be arranged among participants and we’ll be leaving the Tucson area around 7AM, and arriving at Aguirre Lake about 8:30AM. We’ll plan to arrive back in Tucson around 1PM. Limited to 12 Participants
