Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Intro to Desert Hiking

Join Ranger Derik for an approximately 3-mile hike out and back on the Wild Burro Trail. We’ll be pausing to talk about safe hiking practices and how to stay safe hiking in a desert environment. Topics covered will be what to pack, water, how to choose a trail, and how to prep for a hike We’ll be following the lake’s shoreline for most of the hike and crossing several washes. Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Hats and sunscreen are also highly recommended. Bathrooms are available at the trailhead. NO pets, please.

MEETING LOCATION: Wild Burro Trailhead at Ralon Rd. Enter the park at the Main Entry station, and park at the Wild Burro Day Use Area lot.

Limit 20 participants. To register, please email Ranger Derik at Derik.Rodgers@maricopa.gov. Please indicate that you’d like to register for the Wild Burro hike, provide your name, phone number and total number of participants. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please email back ASAP so those on the waiting list may be contacted. Registration for this program will close on 10/23/23.
