Desert Botanical Garden: Desert Views – A Conversation Series: Exploring Desert Pulse

November 6, 2025 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

$19.95

Learn about the behind- the-scenes of the 3D scanning technology and conservation work that makes Desert Pulse come to life. Join us for an interactive panel discussion and conversation about capturing change in the natural world with a photographer, a research botanist and an ASU professor who works with Lidar.

Each of our speakers share how they use different tools to capture environmental change. Photographer Charles Darr spent a year capturing change in the desert over time for Desert Pulse and discusses the role of photography in allowing us to be more mindful of our relationship with the natural world. Garden Curator of Living Collections/Research Botanist Raul Puente shares how he helped select the sites for Desert Pulse based on which plants would best capture change over time. ASU Professor Chelsea Scott shares how she uses Lidar technology in her conservation work to understand our present environmental impact and how we can respond to future change.

One cocktail or mocktail included with ticket purchase. Bar opens at 5 p.m. Garden admission included with class purchase.
