SUMMARY:⭐Arizona Game and Fish Department: Citizen Science Case Study - Land Snails in Arizona
DESCRIPTION:Citizen or community science is a way for the public to get involved in science by incorporating volunteers in different aspects of the research process. For years\, the Arizona Game and Fish Department has relied on volunteers to help us carry out our mission to conserve Arizona’s diverse wildlife resources. Since April is Citizen Science Month\, we decided to host a series of webinars designed for educators to highlight some of these projects that depend on volunteers. \nIn this session\, Jeff Sorensen\, the Department’s invertebrates program manager\, will be joining us to discuss the Land Snails of Arizona project which recruits the help of hikers and other outdoor recreationists to submit snail observations. Come learn about how our community is helping us better understand desert snails. \nThis FREE webinar will last approximately 45 minutes. It will include a short presentation followed by a Q&A. Then\, our educators will briefly highlight related resources you can bring back to your students. Participants will also receive a professional development certificate. \nPlease use the Zoom form to register: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_RySDh3tRQuSGfKWse1ddXw \n  \nPart of Greater Phoenix City Nature Challenge 2026 \n \nArizona SciTech Festival Season is here! We hope to see you in many of the Festival’s events all over Arizona. Check out the calendar!

SUMMARY:Tucson Bird Alliance: Feather Trails - A Journey of Discovery Among Endangered Birds
DESCRIPTION:Birds are visible\, vocal sentinels that alert us to environmental harms through their declining numbers or their failure to thrive. In her book Feather Trails—A Journey of Discovery Among Endangered Birds\, Sophie Osborn shares her personal experiences reintroducing endangered Peregrine Falcons\, Hawaiian Crows\, and California Condors to the wild. While immersing readers in the triumphs and tribulations of being a wildlife biologist\, Sophie explores the threats that imperiled these birds\, and reveals that what harmed them threatens us\, too. She will discuss what led to the endangerment of these three captivating species\, recount the efforts of biologists to recover their populations\, and read a few excerpts from her book that describe what it was like to work with these magnificent birds. \nSophie A. H. Osborn is an award-winning environmental writer and wildlife biologist whose work has included the study and conservation of more than a dozen bird species in the Americas. She contributed to reintroduction efforts for several endangered birds and served as the field manager for the California Condor Recovery Program in Arizona for four years. Her first book\, Condors in Canyon Country\, won the 2007 National Outdoor Book Award for Nature and the Environment. Reviewers for the American Birding Association (ABA) chose her second book\, Feather Trails\, as their favorite bird book of 2024. Sophie has written articles for Bird\nConservation\, BirdWatching\, and Wyoming Wildlife magazines. Her writings are also available her website and her “Words for Birds” Substack blog. \nThe presentation is free to join. Registrants will be emailed a Zoom link prior to the event.

SUMMARY:LFDT Phoenix: Open Standards for Tokenization - Why Interoperability Matters
DESCRIPTION:Institutional adoption of tokenized assets hinges on solving a critical infrastructure problem: how do digital securities operate across multiple platforms\, jurisdictions\, and compliance regimes without recreating the vendor lock-in that plagues legacy systems? \nLinux Foundation Decentralized Trust and OpenAssets are establishing this foundational layer through the Open Tokenized Asset Standard (OTAS)—a recently approved lab building protocol-agnostic standards for compliant\, interoperable digital assets. \nSurendra Kalidindi\, CTO of OpenAssets will explore why open standards matter for institutional digital assets\, how OTAS differs from proprietary tokenization platforms\, and what the newly launched OTAS Lab will deliver to the ecosystem. Discover opportunities for developers and institutions to contribute through the OTAS Lab and LF Decentralized Trust’s mentorship program. \nPlease note: This event is being shared with our entire global community. If you’re interested in this content but can’t attend the event live\, feel free to sign up and we will send you a link to the recording after the meetup is over. \n\n\n\nSpeaker\n\n\nSurendra Kalidindi\n\nSurendra Kalidindi\nhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/skalidindi/ \nSurendra Kalidindi serves as Chief Technology Officer at OpenAssets and sits on the Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust Technical Advisory Committee. He leads development of open infrastructure for institutional digital assets and oversees OpenAssets’ contribution of the Open Tokenized Asset Standard (OTAS).

SUMMARY:LFDT Phoenix: From Identity-First to Authority Continuity
DESCRIPTION:We built security around identity\, tokens\, and roles. It was never quite right\, capability theorists knew this decades ago. AI agents just made the cracks impossible to ignore. \nThis is the moment to correct the model. \nWe will reason from first principles. What identity is. What an identifier is. What authority actually is\, not a token you hold\, but a continuous property of execution that can only shrink\, never expand. Why confused deputy and privilege escalation are not edge cases. They are the structural outcome of building on possession. \nWe will work through the real delegation cases that break every IAM system built today\, defined by Alan Karp\, who has spent decades mapping them. Delegation and attenuation. Chained delegation across organizations. Revocation\, including the hard case where you need to revoke someone you never delegated to directly. The confused deputy\, known since 1988\, still appearing in every generation of systems. Seven aspects of sharing that people rely on in the real world and that no identity-based\, role-based\, or attribute-based system handles correctly. The use cases are here: alanhkarp.com/UseCases.pdf \nWe will then explore how authority continuity changes everything. Moving from identity-first to an intent and execution model means authority is anchored at the origin\, flows through a verifiable chain\, and cannot be expanded\, stolen\, or reinterpreted at any hop. \nAI agents are the opportunity we did not expect. Authority continuity is the correction we always needed.

SUMMARY:⭐Arizona Game and Fish Department: Citizen Science Case Study - Bats in Arizona
\nIn this session\, Angie McIntire\, the Department’s bat biologist\, will be joining us to discuss a recent project in which volunteer observations were used to identify a new bat species in the state. You do not want to miss this. \nThis FREE webinar will last approximately 45 minutes. It will include a short presentation followed by a Q&A. Then\, our educators will briefly highlight related resources you can bring back to your students. Participants will also receive a professional development certificate. \nPlease use the Zoom form to register: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_v42hf18xRfmJF7YhJ3A7jA \n  \nPart of Greater Phoenix City Nature Challenge 2026 \n \nArizona SciTech Festival Season is here! We hope to see you in many of the Festival’s events all over Arizona. Check out the calendar!
