SUMMARY:Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Paws in the Parks!
DESCRIPTION:Get those tails on the trails as the sun sets on this fun and pet-friendly evening hike led by Ranger Jacque!  \n\nDogs and their humans are welcome! Join Ranger Jacque on a fun adventure with your fur baby as we meet new friends (both two-legged and four!) and explore the park! This scenic hike traverses the North Trail\, making a 3 mile loop. Do I need a dog first aid kit? Are there easier ways to manage poop? \n  \nCome find out! \nRemember to bring: 6-foot leash\, doggie bags\, plenty of water for both you and your pet; sturdy\, close-toed shoes\, hat and sunscreen for you; personal light for after dusk. \nNote- restrooms are located on the road before or after the trailhead\, not directly at the trailhead. The trailhead is located a 10 minute drive from the contact station. Please plan accordingly. \n  \nMEETING LOCATION: North Trailhead \nPrecise Meeting Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ECGrbnMfspfuwqmp6 \n  \nLimit 10 participants. SUMMARY:Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Plant Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join Ranger Nikki on an easy walk to learn about some of the flowers\, shrubs and trees that are found in the Park. It is also National Invasive Species Awareness Week\, so you can learn about the County Parks’ focus on improving native biodiversity and ecosystem health by dealing with problematic invaders. \n\nLearn about the Sonoran Desert in springtime with a chance to see wildflowers and blooming shrubs. Late fall rains provided a start for the flower season so there may be a continuation of blooms or even a second round for spring. Possible sightings include poppies\, lupine\, owl’s clover\, desert hyacinth\, fairy duster\, globemallow and more. It is also National Invasive Species Awareness Week so you can learn about invasive plants that disrupt the ecosystem balance\, how you can join volunteer efforts in the Valley to restore affected lands and how you can make a difference with your home garden. Ranger Nikki will lead you along a portion of Wagner Trail and campground roads to make an approximate 1.5-mile loop. The trail terrain is mostly flat and level with crushed gravel underfoot and the roads are paved. Wear closed-toe shoes and sun-protective clothing. Water and restrooms are available nearby at the Nature Center and in the group camping area\, a short walk from our meeting location.\nMEETING LOCATION: Wagner Trailhead \nPrecise Meeting Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/psxpK5YMxrAydhSy6 \nNo registration required.

SUMMARY:Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Scenic Ecosystem Hike
DESCRIPTION:Let’s walk the lovely Scenic trail and have a look at the local ecosystem. We’ll examine and identify plants and animals we see (or try to\, at least) and talk about how they interact to make our desert unique.  \n\nThis roughly 4-mile medium difficultly hike will take us down the aptly named Scenic trail which follows along a ridge and treats hikers to stunning vistas of the surrounding countryside. While enjoying these long ranging scenes we will also pause to draw down on some of the plants and animals along the edges of the trail to search for insects\, small mammals\, and birds in our immediate vicinity going about the business of pollinating late blooming wildflowers\, storing\, spreading\, and making seeds for next year! (Truthfully\, the next several years\, but we’ll talk about that.) \nMeeting Location: Trailhead Staging Area \nPrecise Meeting Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/gGTGnx3gMQWApLCD9 \nLimit 10 participants. To register\, please call the Nature Center at (602)506-2930 ext. 3 with your phone number and the number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered\, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 10/27/2025. \nPLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather\, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online or call the Nature Center before coming to the park.
