DESCRIPTION:Kartchner Caverns invites you to join us for a walk in the park as we uncover and learn about some of the 13 different neighboring bat species in the park. We will use bat detectors while on a walk through the beautiful desert night to see and hear some of them while learning about the diversity of these flying mammals. Boldly go where the public generally doesn’t get to walk – this walk does not go inside the cave or include any bat handling. Bring your friends and family (registration required) \nWe highly recommend bringing these items: \n\nA headlamp or flashlight (black light for children) – red light option preferable\nNight vision goggles or equipment (not provided by the park)\nComfortable shoes\nYour personal bat detector (if you have one)\nPlenty of water\n\nCave Tour and live bat handling not included\, walk will be slightly over a half mile. Program lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Registration is required ($15 per person fee applies). Due to the quiet nature of this walk and the duration\, this event is recommended for kids 7 and older. \nIn the event of inclement weather\, the bat walk will be canceled. DESCRIPTION:oin Kartchner Caverns\, an International Dark Sky Park\, for a Star Party on April 18 to celebrate International Dark Sky Week! \n\n\nBefore night sky viewing through high-powered telescopes begins\, listen to a presentation by Ted Blank\, “Light Pollution: Why Should I Care?” This talk will discuss the importance of protecting our dark skies through smart lighting to help nighttime pollinators (like bats)\, nocturnal animals\, migrating birds\, and human health. After our talk\, we’ll enjoy this International Dark Sky Park by viewing stars\, planets\, and other wonders of the dark and natural night sky. \nThe Star Party is free but standard park entry fees apply. Program is weather permitting. \nAbout our speaker: Ted Blank has been a NASA Solar System Ambassador since 2010\, communicating the science and excitement of space exploration missions and discoveries to people in his community.  He is a past President of the New Hampshire Astronomical Society and a current member of the Board of Directors of the International Dark Sky Discovery Center in Fountain Hills\, Arizona slated to open in late 2026.  Ted bought his first telescope in 2007 and still frequently sets one up on the sidewalk to share the views with the public.  He is a retired IT professional\, having spent more than 35 years as a performance analyst with IBM and Oracle.  He currently lives in Fountain Hills with his wife Peggy. \nProgram Schedule \n1 p.m. – Daytime solar viewing\n5 p.m. – Presentation “Light Pollution: Why Should I Care?”\n7 p.m. – Telescope viewing

DESCRIPTION:Come participate in the exhilarating Junior Ranger Experience\, where you’ll get out into nature and learn what it takes to protect Arizona’s amazing natural resources! The program lasts for an hour and two sessions are available at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. \nThe program will start in the Discovery Center and will be focusing on the bats here at Kartchner Caverns State Park. At the end of the program\, the new Junior Rangers will be sworn in and receive an exclusive Kartchner Caverns Junior Ranger Experience badge! \nNote: the park’s standard $7.00 day use fee applies unless you have a cave tour or camping reservation.
