SUMMARY:McDowell Sonoran Conservancy: Master Planned Developments in Scottsdale
DESCRIPTION:A large portion of Scottsdale residents live in master planned developments. \nMost of the later development in Scottsdale was contained in such developments\, but few know that some of the earliest pioneers who helped create Scottsdale had similar visions to create grand developments but never achieved their dreams. This presentation by Don Hadder profiles over 30 such developments in Scottsdale and reviews their evolution over 40 years of time.

SUMMARY:McDowell Sonoran Conservancy: All About Plant Phenology – Educational Walk
DESCRIPTION:This leisurely walk along the Brown’s Ranch Jane Rau trail will introduce you to the Conservancy’s ongoing phenology project in the Preserve. \nWHAT is Phenology? Phenology is the science of studying life cycle events in plants and animals. When does it grow\, when is it dormant\, when does it reproduce? \nWHY Phenology? The data we collect on each year’s new leaves\, flowers and fruit is vital information to help scientists better understand how changing climate conditions are affecting all living organisms worldwide. \nPhenology data helps us to make adaptive management decisions as to how we might be able to help mitigate adverse effects. \nThere are restrooms and water at the trailhead. Bring water and snacks for the trail. No dogs please. Plan to arrive 15 minutes before start of walk.

SUMMARY:McDowell Sonoran Conservancy: Poisonous and Venomous Animals of Arizona
DESCRIPTION:Arizona is home to a diverse array of poisonous and venomous creatures. More species of venomous reptiles are found here than in any other U.S. state. He has worked on numerous studies and projects in Arizona\, New Mexico\, southeastern U.S.\, Mexico\, Central America\, Vietnam\, and southern Africa on small mammals\, fish\, reptiles and amphibians. He was installed in the Arizona Wildlife Hall of Fame in 2021. Has over 31 publications including “Reptiles and Amphibians of the Sonoran Desert” and “Snakes of Southeast Arizona.”
