SUMMARY:HeatSync Labs: Build-A-Bot 3d
DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of 3d modeling and customize your own 3d printed fidget robot. \nBenjamin is a 3d printed fidget robot with elastic holding the arms and legs to allow repositioning them. In this 2 hour class you will design a custom head for your robot. Everyone will leave with a complete robot with your own selections of pre-printed parts in a variety of colors including a “starter head”. \nDue to time constraints the part you design will be printed after the class and you can pick them up during any open hours. Printing a robot head takes about 35 minutes which limits how many people can print parts in a reasonable time. \nWe will be using Cadoodle which is a free and open source 3d software with an interface that makes it easy to get started making geometric based models. \nWe will cover: \n\nUsing multiple basic shapes to add or subtract to create more complex shapes\nAligning multiple shapes\nUsing 2d sketches to create 3d shapes using pad or revolve\nDiscuss design considerations for 3d printing such as overhangs and dimensional accuracy\nBasics on how slicing software works to prepare models for 3d printing\nAges 13+

SUMMARY:HeatSync Labs: Laser Cutter Certification
DESCRIPTION:Laser cutters are awesome tools and HeatSync Labs is a place where you can laser cut cool projects. This is the class for anyone wanting to learn to use the laser cutter without needing supervision. Learn how to cut and engrave with both the 80 Watt and 60 Watt laser cutters. We will get hands on and everyone will make themselves a HeatSync Labs key chain. This is a 3 hour workshop please plan to be there for all of it. \n  \nLaser cutters are great for cutting wood\, acrylic\, paper\, fabric\, and some other materials (it cannot cut metal). During class we will cover why some materials are not safe because of toxic fumes. Safety related to the various systems as well as fires that can occur inside the laser cutter. \n  \nNo experience necessary. Ages 18 and up. Those under 18 can be trained on the laser\, but would still require a certified laser cutter user to supervise using the laser. \n  \nWe will also briefly cover some of our our hackerspace culture and norms related to cleaning the laser\, cleaning other tools and work areas\, cooperative efforts to improve the space and fulfill our educational mission.
