SUMMARY:Arizona State Parks & Trails: Riordan Mansion Evening Lecture - Milton\, Arizona: A Conversation About Company Towns
DESCRIPTION:Everyone in Flagstaff knows Milton Road\, but few know that Milton once was a separate company town owned by the Arizona Lumber & Timber Company. Centered on today’s Riordan Road\, Milton provided housing and amenities to workers at the Arizona Lumber & Timber Company sawmill\, the largest employer in northern Arizona from the 1880s to the 1930s. In this talk\, David Portree\, guide for Riordan Mansion State Historic Park’s Milton walking tours\, and NAU history professor Michael Amundson\, an expert on company towns\, will discuss Milton in its heyday and how it was similar to and different from other company towns in the American West. \nSpace is limited. Reserve your spot online at https://azstateparks.com/reserve/Activities/Search.aspx or call 928-779-4395 for additional information and same day availability.  The presentation will be free thanks to Riordan Action Network.

SUMMARY:Arizona State Parks & Trails: Geology Tour at Oracle State Park
DESCRIPTION:Limited space\, by reservation only! \nDid you know that Oracle State Park was once covered by warm\, shallow seas? Are you familiar with the numerous faults that uncovered rocks once buried more than 5 miles beneath the surface?  The park offers visitors the opportunity to experience the unique geology of the Santa Catalina Mountains area. First\, you’ll participate in an interactive discussion of major geologic events led by park volunteer Maribeth Greenslade. Then you’ll join Maribeth on a 1¼ mile guided hike exploring the landforms and dynamic geology of the surrounding area. You’ll have many opportunities to ask questions and handle real rocks in the field! \nPost tour packets are available for all participants that provide maps and a “Geology of Featured Trails at the Park” pamphlet with photos. \n\n\nNo prior geology experience is needed. Meet at Oracle State Park’s Group Use Area Parking Lot. The program will last about an hour and a half. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nReserve your spot here (search for Oracle State Park under places).
