Short Wave: An Astrophysicist On The End Of Everything

Today, we contemplate the end times — as in the end of our entire universe — with astrophysicist Katie Mack.

The North Carolina State University researcher just released her first book, The End of Everything (Astrophysically Speaking).

Spoiler alert: the names of our possible ends are just as gnarly as the scenarios themselves. Mack’s book discusses many, but our discussion focuses on the following:

  • Heat Death
  • Big Crunch
  • Vacuum Decay

Email the show your existential questions at shortwave@npr.org — but please, no existential dread at this time. We’re full up on that.
