Raising Dragons: Notepad Friction

This fun science experiment demonstrates the concept of friction and how it increases dramatically when force is applied.

Take two notepads and interlace the pages. Once the pages are interlaced hold the ends and try to pull the pages apart. As hard as they are pulled they will not come apart. This is because as force is applied when trying to pull them apart, the normal force between all the pages increases and this increases overall friction making the pages very difficult to pull apart. So cool!
