Inside Mathematics: 7th & 8th Grade Math – Graphs, Equations, & Tables

This lesson is intended to deepen students’ understanding of the connections between different representations of functions—graphs, t-charts, and equations.

It requires students to work together, making mathematically valid arguments that tie together these varied forms. Too often, students see these different representations as isolated and unconnected. After successful teaching of this lesson, the next steps might be to ask questions such as, “For the equation y = 3x + 4, where do you see the 3 on the graph? Where is the 4 in the t-chart?”
