Explore.org: Bella Diamond Hummingbird (La Verne, California)

Bella Diamond first appeared in the yard January 2016 when she nested in a palm tree.

She was named “Diamond” because her gorget (colored feathers on her throat) looked like a diamond shape from afar. Since then she has resided and nested in my yard each year. She has a deformity at the tip of her beak that makes her very distinguishable. However, this “deformity” does not impair her ability to successfully build a nest or raise her chicks.
