Carnegie STEM Girls: Meteorologist

Meteorologists have their heads in the clouds.

Well, not literally but they do analyze weather systems and forecast local weather patterns. Using information sent by satellites, they compare temperatures, winds, atmospheric pressure, precipitation, and other aspects to describe our climate. Meteorologists also develop computer models and conduct research to predict weather and to better understand the way the atmosphere works. The largest employer of meteorologists is the federal government, including the National Weather Service. A bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science is recommended and a graduate degree is needed to pursue research positions.
