Carnegie STEM Girls: Botanist

Botanists get paid for having a green thumb!

They study botany, the biological study of plant life. This includes fungi, algae, and even viruses! Botanists look at all aspects of plant life – from growth, metabolism, diseases, chemical properties, evolution, plant DNA, and more! Though botany is one the oldest branches of science, botanists today study about 400,000 species of living organisms!  A bachelor’s degree is the minimum requirement for most careers such as lab technicians or technical assistants in museums, parks and botanical gardens. A doctorate is required for most teaching and research positions in colleges and universities.
