Atomic Heritage Foundation: The Explosion of the Bomb

Students are introduced to the explosion of the bomb through crafts.

Assignment:

Have the students make their own atomic bomb “mushroom clouds” using the materials provided. While students are constructing their models, explain the dangerous nature of the atomic bomb and the effects of a nuclear explosion (mention radiation, blast, etc.). This page from PBS may be useful background reading. Also mention that atomic bombs have not been used since World War II, as well as the number of countries that currently are in possession of an atomic bomb and current efforts to move towards a world without nuclear weapons.
