Arizona Game and Fish Department: Focus Wild Arizona - Wildlife Science @ Home: Amphibian Skin

Around the world, frogs and other amphibians are in trouble.

Many species are becoming endangered or going extinct. There are many reasons for these population declines, including disease, prolonged drought, habitat loss and climate change. Many of these problems are made worse for amphibians because of a unique feature: their skin!

Let’s test how permeable skin works. We don’t want to test this on real animals, so we are going to use a model. In this case, our model is going to be eggs from the grocery store.

Wildlife Science @ Home: These short activities using common household materials allow students to carry out wildlife-related science experiments and projects at their home. Each activity includes a two page instruction document for the student and one page of teaching tips to help the parent or educator guide the student successfully through the activity.
