Arizona Game and Fish Department: Focus Wild Arizona Activity Sheets - State Symbols 2: State Birds

In 1931, the Legislature selected the cactus wren to be the official state bird of Arizona.

As the state bird, the cactus wren would serve as a symbol of Arizona. But why? What is so special about the cactus wren?

Focus Wild Arizona Activity Sheets: From 2006-2013, each issue of the Department’s Arizona Wildlife Views magazine featured a new education article. These articles were intended for younger children and include some vocabulary and a fun activity. All of these articles are now available on our website.
