Workshops are STEM-based field trips that take place for all grade levels in a Challenger classroom.
Each session is designed for a classroom with a maximum of 30 students.
Two Chaperones per classroom plus the Educator are included in the price of the program.

SPACE PLACE (PreK & K)
Space Place explores our planet and the solar system in a way that is both fun and educational. Through carefully selected books and hands-on creative activities, students are captivated by the mysteries and wonders of space travel and explore what it takes to be an astronaut. This two-hour workshop is facilitated by a Challenger Space Center Flight Director.
DESTINATION PLACE (Grades 1 & 2)
This two-hour workshop, facilitated by a Challenger Space Center Flight Director, focuses on the eight planets in our solar system. Through the use of hands-on creative activities, student explore what it takes to be an astronaut. Utilizing teamwork, students are introduced to the different areas of manned space flight.
NEO LANDING (Grades 3 – 5)
NASA is entering a new era of human space exploration. By 2025, NASA scientists plan to send an astronaut to a Near-Earth Object (NEO) as a springboard to future Mars missions. A NEO voyage will take three to six months and cover five million miles. Today’s students who learn how to live and work on these extended NEO journeys are the space travelers of tomorrow. Excite your students about the possibilities of space exploration with this program designed in accordance with Arizona’s 3rd through 5th grade standards. A Challenger Space Center Flight Director leads your students through a two-hour workshop featuring hands-on activity stations, a guided team building activity and a demonstration exploring the properties of light.
SPACED OUT (Grades 6 – 8)
Today’s students are tomorrow’s space colonists. The path is not easy, but with this early-start and proper training, these future astronauts will be prepared for the mental and physiological challenges ahead. Get a glimpse into the lift of an astronaut and experience the mixture of excitement, adventure and the sense of confinement that goes with living and working in space. A Challenger Space Center Flight Director guides your students through this two-hour workshop. Students experience first hand the stress of an emergency situation by reenacting the near-disaster aboard the Apollo 13 mission. Teams of students design and build a working air filter using reproductions of the equipment available to the Apollo crew. In addition, students will also experience demonstration on the nature of light and energy as well as a guided team building activity.
