ACS: Science ABCs - 'Q' is for Quick

Quincy and Quinona Quack
Are very quick indeed.
Everything they do is fast.
They move with lightning speed.

The quickness of those Quack kids
Is surely no mistake.
It took them years of practice,
’Cause quickness you can’t fake.

Now Quincy and Quinona
Can teach you quickness, too.
So practice with the Quack kids
And learn what’s quick for you!

What You’ll Need

  • cardboard
  • blunt-tipped scissors
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • black marker
  • crayons

How can Quincy and Quinona (and you) get quicker?

Trying to catch the strip as soon as it is dropped is a way of testing reaction time. As soon as the strip is dropped, your eyes send a message to your brain that the strip is falling. Your brain then sends a message to your hand to close your fingers and catch it. With practice, your eyes, brain, and hand get used to working together and usually get quicker.
