ACS: Science ABCs - 'K' is for Kazoo

Konrad plays a mean kazoo
In Kay’s Kazoo Quartet.
He’s hardly ever nervous,
But now he’s quite upset.

Konrad lost his best kazoo—
The big show starts at eight.
He needs to find another
Because the show won’t wait.

Konrad doesn’t worry much.
He knows what he can do.
He’ll save the quartet’s concert—
He’ll make his own kazoo!

What You’ll Need

  • toilet paper

  • rubber band

How does Konrad’s kazoo make music?

When you hum into a kazoo, you cause the tube and the air inside to vibrate. These vibrations then cause the surrounding air to vibrate. When these vibrations reach the ears of listeners, they hear kazoo music.
