ACS: Science ABCs - 'B' is for Bubble

Benny bought a bubble loop
For bubbles big and small.
He blew so many bubbles,
He couldn’t count them all.

Along came Benny’s brother,
Who’s always on the run.
He spilled the bubble liquid,
Which ruined Benny’s fun.

Benny did not get upset.
He knew what he could do.
He made more bubble liquid.
It’s easy—you can, too!

What You’ll Need

  • 1/2 cup dishwashing
    liquid
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • shallow baking pan
  • plastic strawberry basket
  • plastic straw
  • pipe cleaners
  • measuring cup
  • spoons

Why does Benny use detergent to make
bubble liquid?

Bubble liquid in stores is made mostly of detergent and water. Tiny particles of detergent mix into and spread out over the water’s surface, creating a thin film. The film stretches when air is blown into it, holding the air inside to make a bubble.
