Yavapai County Free Library District: From Plant to Plate with the Master Gardeners of Yavapai County!
New to gardening? Struggling with your existing garden? The Master Gardeners of Yavapai County Cooperative Extension have it ALL covered! In this six-part series they will cover all the basics from soil health, composting, crop rotation, weeding, dealing with pests – before you know it, you’ll be eating the fruits of your labor!
Week by week – what we’ll be learning!
Week One October 2nd – Planning your garden! Choosing your site, making a planting plan, crop rotation, making a planting map, and common crop chart.
Week Two October 9th – Getting started with healthy soil! Preparing your soil, building healthy soil, making garden beds, container gardening, composting, and fertilizing.
Week Three November 6th – Planting your garden! Container selection, direct seeding, and transplanting.
Week Four November 13th – Caring for your growing garden! Watering, protecting young plants, vertical gardening, and improving and protecting soil health.
Week Five December 4th – Continued caring for your growing garden! Weeding, using integrated pest management, and identifying common pests.
Week Six December 11th – Harvesting and using your bounty! Gardening for your health, harvest, storage, nutrition, and cooking from your garden.
What if you can’t make it to all of the sessions? No worries! Come to the ones you can!
Who ARE the Master Gardeners?
Master Gardeners are volunteers who are trained by the University of Arizona to support the county Horticulture Agent, by providing science-based horticulture information to the public. Master Gardeners are volunteers of the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension.
What does all that mean? They know their stuff and they are ready to teach us all how to become masters in our own gardens too!
