SUMMARY:Mesa Public Library: Breaking Through the Clouds - Women Air Service Pilots in World War II
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging program exploring the inspiring story of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs)\, the trailblazing American women who courageously flew military aircraft during World War II despite widespread doubt and discrimination. \nSupporting the efforts of the U.S. Army Air Forces\, the WASPs made vital contributions to the war effort while reshaping ideas about women’s roles in aviation and the military. Their legacy is explored by diplomatic historian and licensed pilot Valerie Adams\, whose background in aviation history and national security studies provides valuable context for understanding the WASPs’ service.

SUMMARY:Pinal County Library District: Robotics
DESCRIPTION:Get engineering with VEX Robotics! \nWorking in teams\, kids ages 10-13 plan\, record\, and solve practical problems using robots. Robotics uses VEX IQ Generation 2 robot kits to learn the basics of robot design and problem solving. Participants will be divided into teams and work together to build and modify a VEX IQ robot to complete a given challenge (using various VEX IQ challenge sets). Participants will be expected to keep “engineering” notebooks detailing progress they make in both design choices and construction of their robot with each member of the team taking turns acting as the “recorder” for the notebook. The focus of the program is in learning and understanding the engineering design process\, particularly iterative design\, through hands-on problem solving. All participants should have basic reading and writing skills (3rd/4th grade level) as well as math skills (addition/subtraction).
