Watershed Management Group: River Restoration Workshop – Beaver Habitat Restoration on the Babocomari River

The Babocomari River is a tributary of the San Pedro River, catching precipitation that falls on the Hauchuca Mountains, Canelo Hills and Mustang Mountains. The Babocomari River supports Cottonwood gallery forests, a riparian habitat consisting of Cottonwoods, Willows, Baccharis, occasional Ash trees and a panoply of understory forbs and shrubs. The Babocomari has been a home to beaver historically and recently.

Watershed Management Group has been working on a beaver habitat restoration project on a property along the Babocomari River since 2023 and so far has installed numerous PALS (post assisted log structures) with the intention of slowing the water down, spreading it out into the side channels of the river to wet more habitat and allowing the soils to act as water storage sponges.

Join us as we work to install wooden posts and weave posts and logs together with a mattress of brushy woody materials and plant Willows and other species within the structures. You will have an opportunity to gain familiarity with different restoration tools and local ecology.

This is a two day workshop on Friday February 7th and Saturday February 8th. Join us for one or both days.

Registration for each day is separate. Please sign up for each day individually.

All are encouraged to join, regardless of experience. Feel free to join for a single day or both days.
