Watershed Management Group: Rain Garden Workshop – Emily Meschter Early Learning Center

Join us in building Rain Gardens along La Cholla Blvd in Flowing Wells!

Together with staff and parents from the Emily Meschter Early Learning Center, and the Flowing Wells community, we’re continuing to stretch the green infrastructure corridor started last year at the Flowing Wells Junior High School near Wetmore Rd.

Street-side Rain Gardens (also known as green infrastructure) provide lots of benefits to communities! On top of helping reduce nuisance flooding along streets and planting the rain, Rain Gardens provide habitat for all kinds of wildlife, plants help provide shade to cool down spaces, and make public walking spaces feel more inviting!

Come ready to give shape to water harvesting basins, learn about plant placement to ensure plants thrive in these rain gardens, and take home a free Build-Your-Own-Basin (BYOB) kit that includes a shade tree, two grasses, a shrub, a pack of wildflower seeds, and organic mulch – all native species to our region!

Led by Green Infrastructure Coordinator, Luis Salgado.

This workshop and BYOB kit distribution are made possible thanks to funding from Pima County’s Community Development Block Grant and One Tree Planted.
