Tucson Botanical Gardens: The Shady Side of your Desert Garden

Don’t be bored with shade gardens that are just green or worse yet, dead. There are plenty of colorful plants that will thrive in our desert shady locations in pots.

From foliage to flowers and vines, Marylee will share with you what plants fit what fully or partly shaded locations in your landscape. Coupled with beautiful pots, your front door and patio will become the talk of your neighborhood!

She will also discuss the types of plants that are conducive to these spaces while thriving in our challenging desert climate. There will be plenty of time to ask questions in this 90 minute virtual program.

Marylee’s book, “Getting Potted in the Desert,” is available for purchase in the TBG Gift Shop or can be shipped to your home by calling Christine at 520-326-9686.

Marylee Pangman founded The Contained Gardener in 1998 as a niche business in the desert community of Tucson, Arizona.  Since then, Marylee has been compelled to share all that she has learned about container gardening over 20 years of blistering summers and record breaking winters.  Marylee sees container gardening as a way to have an oasis garden while conserving water as the demands of pots are far less than heavily planted areas and beds.  You can find Marylee’s book, “Getting Potted in the Desert” at the Garden’s Gift Shop.  This excellent resource includes a month-by-month planning guide, ideas for creating and caring for potted gardens, advice on container selection, and much more. https://thepotteddesert.com
