Tucson Audubon Society: Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area Field Trip

Registration fee: $35/member, $50/non-member*

Trip difficulty: Easy, 1-2 miles on flat dirt paths. Restrooms (port-a-potties) available. No water available. Little to no shade available.

An oasis in the middle of the Chihuahuan desert grassland, Whitewater Draw is known for its amazing numbers of wintering Sandhill Cranes (10,000+). This Important Bird Area is the winter home for many species of waterfowl (Northern Pintail, Gadwall, possible Snow Goose) and raptors (Northern Harrier, falcons, possible Bald Eagle) among the many other species found in this marsh/desert habitat. Carpooling to location will be arranged among participants and we’ll be leaving the Tucson area at 7:30am, and arriving at Whitewater about 9:30am. Time-permitting we will plan to visit a few roadside stops on our way back. We’ll plan to arrive back in Tucson by 4pm. Plan for colder weather and bring a lunch. Limited to 12 participants.
