Tucson Audubon Society: El Rio Preserve with Swarovski Optik with Bruce Webb and Tom Brown

Part of the Southeast Arizona Birding Festival

A new nature preserve area near Marana that is along the Santa Cruz River, El Rio Preserve is also part of the historic Juan Bautista de Anza Trail.

You’ll enjoy the view from the overlook where you’ll be able to use Swarovski scopes to see a variety birds including waders, shorebirds, and flycatchers. Drive time to meeting location from festival venue is about 30 minutes, specific meeting instructions will be emailed beforehand. Limited to 10 participants on each outing.

Drive Yourself—Meet On-Site Field Trips.  “Drive Yourself” field trips will meet on-site at birding locations and you will received detailed directions.

A packed lunch, snacks, and drinking water are provided on full-day field trips. A light snack and drinking water are provided on half-day field trips. 

  • Two Times: 6:00am – 7:00am; 7:30am – 8:30am
  • $5/person
  • Difficulty: Moderate (mostly easy with paved trail and overlook, but some steep grade if walking down to sandy trails)
