Tohono Chul: Curator’s Talk THE EXOTIC SUBLIME | on plants
Join us in the Exhibit House for a discussion about our new exhibition, The Exotic Sublime: on plants, in the Main Gallery.
This installment of The Exotic Sublime presents a contemporary florilegium of plant life in the Sonoran Desert. Plants of all shapes and sizes, from basin to range, survive across five seasons— they seed, climb, roll, spread, poke, bloom, root, stem, branch, wither, bud, flower, and fruit. Mysterious, medicinal, and magical life cycles thriving or threatened adaptably ever-changing. We witness –in macrocosm or microcosm– the effects of time in slow dissolution or methodical accretion; cautionary and symbiotic tales combine what this place used to be with what this place will become. The voice in between, the creative and artistic resolve, is a visionary current toward the odd and wondrous grandeur of The Exotic Sublime.
