SUMMARY:Nerding: Minecraft - Build\, Design & Code
DESCRIPTION:Think like an architect\, build like an engineer\, and create like a game designer. In this advanced Minecraft class\, older students will work in a class-only private realm to explore how real-world architecture\, design\, and engineering come together inside the game. They will study architectural styles and famous structures\, then use those ideas to plan and build impressive creations of their own while learning how to make builds feel larger\, smarter\, and more realistic. \nStudents will practice advanced building techniques such as scale\, depth\, texture\, block palettes\, landscaping\, lighting\, and interior design\, along with tips and tricks that help builds look polished and professional. They will also explore redstone circuits\, automation\, hidden features\, and coding concepts that bring their worlds to life. As they design\, test\, and problem-solve\, students will build skills they can use in any Minecraft world\, from creating epic structures to engineering interactive systems with confidence and creativity. \nThis class is perfect for kids who already love Minecraft and are ready to take their skills to the next level through bigger ideas\, better techniques\, and more intentional building. \n  \nGrades 4 – 7 \nJune 1 – 5

SUMMARY:Nerding: Kawaii Art Mart - Pop-Up Shop (Grades 1 - 3)
DESCRIPTION:This is a NEW CLASS\, so we are working on photos\, but your teacher\, Mrs. Warwick (art teacher extraordinaire) is in the photos. Just look at her! You know this class will be delightful! Oh\, and FYI: BOYS love this class too! \nInspired by the kawaii art movement and the Pop Mart blind box craze\, this class is a week-long creative adventure where students design\, craft\, and curate their own collection of cute trinkets\, wearables\, and collectibles. The big project: each student builds their own DIY claw machine. \nThroughout the week\, kids fill their machines with handmade items like clay figures\, shrinky dink keychains\, beaded bracelets\, and more. The class culminates in a pop-up shop experience with student-designed store signage\, decorated shopping bags with custom stamps\, button name tags\, and more. \nOn showcase day\, parents receive play money to ‘shop’ at the kids’ stores and try the claw machines! Every project ties back to a real art form or design concept\, from Japanese kawaii culture to iconography\, stamp-making\, and basic entrepreneurship. \n  \nGrades 1 – 3 \nJune 1 – 5

SUMMARY:Highlands Center for Natural History: Natural History Book Club - "The Language of Trees: A Rewilding of Literature and Landscape" by Katie Holten
DESCRIPTION:Sitting in the Highlands Center ramada while the wind rustles through the ponderosa pine needles and a robin chirps\, there is a moment of silent contemplation. Natural history is complicated – personal and universal at the same time. Our Natural History book club met beginning in 2021 and the discussions occasionally resulted in these special moments of quiet thoughtfulness. \nWe’re excited to continue to offer this free and open to the public program. Reading is something on many of our “to-do” lists\, but some of us need a little extra incentive\, like having a group that meets monthly to discuss. This group focuses on books related to natural history\, with some southwestern component\, written in the last decade or so. Books are selected by the group and then sold in the Benson Family Nature Store. We take our time reading – two months for each book. And we encourage personal connections\, as well as universal questioning\, when we come together for our meetings. People can jump in at any time! \nJoin the Natural History Book Club today! \nBook club meetings are the first Friday of each month from 1pm-2pm and meet in the beautiful outdoor setting of the Discovery Gardens Ramada\, weather depending. \n2026 Natural History Book Club Books and Dates: \n\nJune / July\nThe Language of Trees: A Rewilding of Literature and Landscape\, by Katie Holten
