DESCRIPTION:Explore the night skies from the summit of Mt. Lemmon using Arizona’s LARGEST publicly available telescopes!  \n\n\nUnder the guidance of a professional\, visitors will enjoy a brief astronomy lecture\, a light dinner\, and an exclusive opportunity to observe astronomical objects and phenomena.  This five-hour program starts 2 hours before sunset and accommodates up to 28 people.  A minimum age of 7 is required for our attendees. \nMt Lemmon is located at 9\,157ft in elevation and is on average 20-30 degrees colder than Tucson – yes\, even in Spring and Summer. Guests are responsible for being aware of the weather and providing appropriate clothing for our cold adventure. Remember to wear comfortable closed-toed shoes. \n Our programs are weather dependent\, and we contact you on the morning of the program to confirm or cancel. \n*Late arrivals cannot be accommodated.  *Early departures cannot be accommodated.  *No alcohol or tobacco/vape products are allowed on-site. \n\n\n\nYouth (7-17): $62.50\n\n\nAdult: $88.50

SUMMARY:Arizona State Parks & Trails: Archaeology Hike at Red Rock State Park
DESCRIPTION:Red Rock State Park has been a destination for Native Americans for several millennia. Most of the ancient features found in the park are from the Sinagua culture dating about 1100 to 1425 AD. Come and hear the fascinating story of the pre-Columbian people who lived and traveled in the park. The hike will identify the various archaeological features visible from park trails and interpret them into the wider context of important regional Sinagua sites. The guide will also touch on ideas of other cultures that likely have made use of the park’s resources. The hike will last about 1½-2 hours\, with an elevation gain of about 250 feet\, along easy to moderate trails and may begin with a short presentation in the theater. \n\n\n\n\nHike is included with park entrance fees. \n\n$10.00 ages 14 and up\n$5.00 ages 7 – 13\nFree for ages 6 and under\n\n\nRESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED: please call (928) 282-6907. Call the park starting the first day of the month of the event to reserve your spot.\n\n\n\nPlease bring water and wear suitable footwear. \nThis event is part of Outdoors250\, a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary and Arizona’s natural heritage. SUMMARY:Tucson Bird Alliance: Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:This Nature Conservancy property and trail system provides access to a mixed habitat of primarily riparian area\, with a free-flowing creek as a boundary. Woodland areas of Fremont cottonwood\, ash\, and netleaf hackberry alternate with grassland areas\, mesquite bosque\, and wetland portions. This diverse habitat provides the opportunity to search for a wide variety of resident and migrating birds\, as well as the opportunity to enjoy local wildlife. Highlights may include Gray Hawk\, Wild Turkey\, Vermilion Flycatcher\, Inca Dove\, Yellow-breasted Chat\, or a visiting Violet-crowned Hummingbird. \nRestrooms\, picnic tables and drinking water available at the Visitor Center. \nWear sturdy shoes\, dress in layers and bring binoculars. \nMeet at the TNC Visitors Center; adequate parking is provided. \nPatagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve is accessed via a 1.25 dirt road from the town of Patagonia. (If traveling via Nogales\, there is no access via Solera Rd as directed by Google maps. Turn by the Wagon Wheel restaurant as you enter the town of Patagonia.) Participants will receive detailed driving instructions in the pre-trip email. \nLimited to 10 participants. \n$50/Members\, $100/Nonmembers \nTrip difficulty: Moderate. 2-2.5 miles over mostly level\, but occasionally uneven\, terrain. Chance of moist\, muddy brief portions near wetland areas. A portion of the trail is a former railroad bed\, with concrete abutments at either end\, bordering the creek. DESCRIPTION:oin Kartchner Caverns\, an International Dark Sky Park\, for a Star Party on April 18 to celebrate International Dark Sky Week! \n\n\nBefore night sky viewing through high-powered telescopes begins\, listen to a presentation by Ted Blank\, “Light Pollution: Why Should I Care?” This talk will discuss the importance of protecting our dark skies through smart lighting to help nighttime pollinators (like bats)\, nocturnal animals\, migrating birds\, and human health. After our talk\, we’ll enjoy this International Dark Sky Park by viewing stars\, planets\, and other wonders of the dark and natural night sky. \nThe Star Party is free but standard park entry fees apply. DESCRIPTION:The day is done and it’s time to unwind and settle in for the night. As the stars begin to appear so does the night shift. \nYou might not know that they are there\, but many of the desert’s night life have come out into the cover and coolness of the dark\, looking for food and companionship. In this one-hour program\, you will learn about some of these creatures and their nocturnal ways.

SUMMARY:Lowell Observatory: Orbits Curiosity Early Learners Camp - Planets: Terrestrial
DESCRIPTION:Children will learn about the planets closest to our sun through various experiments. \nFun and Learning with STEAM \nCreated for children ages 3 to 6\, these activity-based\, hands-on camps explore science and include STEAM elements. Camps are usually held on the first and third Saturdays of each month unless otherwise noted. Even though there are two classes offered per month\, the same lesson will be taught throughout a given month. \nThese 90-minute camps — led by Lowell educators — occur from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Parents can explore topics in physics and astronomy with their children. Activities include science investigations\, games\, storytime\, music\, engineering\, art\, and more! Maximum 14 children per camp. \nMembers: $20 per child\nNon-members: $25 per child \nParent attendance is MANDATORY. The prices listed are per session. You may register for one month at a time or for multiple dates. Discounts will apply for registering multiple children and/or dates. \nScholarships are available for those who demonstrate financial need. Apply here.
