Pinal County Public Library: Robotics
Get engineering with VEX Robotics Gen 2! Working in teams, kids ages 8-13 plan, record, and solve practical problems using robots.
Robotics uses VEX IQ Generation 2 robot kits to learn the basics of robot design and operation. Participants will be divided into teams and work together to design and build a VEX IQ robot to complete a given challenge (using either various VEX IQ challenge sets or a challenge of the participants’ own devising). Participants will be expected to keep “engineering” notebooks detailing progress they make in both design and construction of their robot with each member of the team taking turns acting as the “recorder” for the notebook.
Participants should plan to remain in the course for the entire period from mid-August through April (with no classes during December). The program will wrap up with a final competition/showcase open to famil and friends the first week of May. The projected schedule includes: learning about the challenge and designing options into October; building/re-designing the robot into March; practicing/skirmishing using the R/C controller into late April; robot showcase/competition at the last session.
*** Please note that the registration wait list will only be utilized in the event of cancellations during the first four weeks of the program OR if registrants no-show (3) times in the first four week period. Due to the incremental nature of the program, there will be no additions into the course after the end of September. In addition, participants who miss (3) consecutive sessions will be removed from the program. ***
This season’s equipment upgrade was made possible by funding through the Friends of the Library – Maricopa.
