Pinal County Library District: Robotics

Get engineering with VEX Robotics! Working in teams, kids ages 8-13 plan, record, and solve practical problems using robots.

Robotics uses VEX IQ robot kits to learn the basics of robot design and (time permitting) coding. Participants will be divided into teams and work together to design and build a VEX IQ robot to complete a given challenge (using either various VEX IQ challenge sets or a challenge of the participants own devising). Participants will be expected to keep “engineering” notebooks detailing progress they make in both design and construction of their robot with each member of the team taking turns acting as the “recorder” for the notebook.

Participants should plan to remain in the course for the entire period from September through April (with no classes during December). The registration wait list will only be utilized in the event of cancellations or registrants that no-show in September. Beginning in October, there will be no additions into the course. The projected schedule includes: learning about the challenge and designing options into October; building/re-designing the robot into March; practicing/skirmishing using the R/C controller into late April; last session is a “competition” with the robots open to parents to attend.
