Pima County Public Library: Edible Plants of the Sonoran Desert

Edible plants are all around us in the Sonoran Desert. The indigenous people who have lived here for centuries were at first hunter/gatherers when they arrived here in the Sonoran Desert.

They then became farmers as they began saving seeds to cultivate their own crops. As hunter/gatherers they
became familiar with our native plants and learned which ones could be used as food sources.

We’ll investigate some of these food sources and you’ll learn to appreciate our native plants not just for their
beauty but also for their usefulness and sustainability.
