SUMMARY:Nerding: Robotics
DESCRIPTION:In this super fun class\, we’ll play with different kinds of robots. We have the lil’ Ozobots\, who can follow lines and do cool tricks when they drive over different colors. Then there’s the speedy Indi robots\, who zip around as they drive over special color tiles. And let’s not forget about Dash\, the robot you can program using block coding with an iPad! \nBut that’s not all! We’ll also build our very own robots called ‘BrushBots.’ They’re made from a small motor\, battery\, and a toothbrush. Wiggly BrushBots love to run around and will NOT listen to any directions you give them! But guess what? You get to take your BrushBot home with you! \nEvery day\, we’ll have new challenges and projects to work on. You’ll get to solve puzzles\, learn how to code\, and even create your own robot theme park! \n  \nGrades 1 – 3 \nJune 29 – July 2

SUMMARY:Nerding: Drone Coding
DESCRIPTION:BEHAVIOR NOTE: This class is incredibly fun\, but drones are not chaos-powered toys. Students must stay calm\, follow directions immediately\, and treat the equipment\, instructors\, and each other with respect at all times. Unsafe\, reckless\, or overly silly behavior means a student will be grounded and will sit out of flying activities until they are ready to rejoin safely. \nCode it. Fly it. Land it. In this exciting hands-on drone class\, students will learn to pilot and program real codable drones through high-energy\, mission-based challenges. Using block-based coding\, they will control flight paths\, altitude\, speed\, turns\, and precision maneuvers while taking on scenarios inspired by real-world drone applications like search and rescue\, scientific exploration\, mapping\, and disaster response. \nAs students build their skills\, they will learn how coding and flight work together to solve problems\, complete objectives\, and improve accuracy. They will practice sequencing\, troubleshooting\, spatial awareness\, and control techniques while testing programs\, adjusting flight patterns\, and improving performance with each mission. Along the way\, they will discover tips and strategies for smoother takeoffs\, more precise landings\, better navigation\, and stronger mission planning. \nThis class is perfect for students who love technology\, robotics\, coding\, and hands-on challenges. By the end\, they will have a stronger understanding of drone operation\, block-based programming\, and real-world STEM applications\, along with the confidence to code\, fly\, and problem-solve like a drone pilot and engineer. \n  \nGrades 4 – 7 \nJune 29 – July 2

SUMMARY:Highlands Center for Natural History: Natural History Book Club - "The Language of Trees: A Rewilding of Literature and Landscape" by Katie Holten
DESCRIPTION:Sitting in the Highlands Center ramada while the wind rustles through the ponderosa pine needles and a robin chirps\, there is a moment of silent contemplation. Natural history is complicated – personal and universal at the same time. Our Natural History book club met beginning in 2021 and the discussions occasionally resulted in these special moments of quiet thoughtfulness. \nWe’re excited to continue to offer this free and open to the public program. Reading is something on many of our “to-do” lists\, but some of us need a little extra incentive\, like having a group that meets monthly to discuss. This group focuses on books related to natural history\, with some southwestern component\, written in the last decade or so. Books are selected by the group and then sold in the Benson Family Nature Store. We take our time reading – two months for each book. And we encourage personal connections\, as well as universal questioning\, when we come together for our meetings. People can jump in at any time! \nJoin the Natural History Book Club today! \nBook club meetings are the first Friday of each month from 1pm-2pm and meet in the beautiful outdoor setting of the Discovery Gardens Ramada\, weather depending. \n2026 Natural History Book Club Books and Dates: \n\nJune / July\nThe Language of Trees: A Rewilding of Literature and Landscape\, by Katie Holten

SUMMARY:Embry - Riddle Aeronautical University: Junior Individualized Flight Training Summer Camp [Echo]
DESCRIPTION:Introducing Junior Individualized Flight Training (J-IFT) Summer Program – Our newly designed former Expo Flight camp. \nThe J-IFT Summer Program is a hands-on\, personalized\, and individually focused 5-day immersion to aviation for students ages 14-18. Created to match the collegiate flight training environment – dedicated personalized instructor assigned to no more than 2 students – it is the most realistic experience in terms of how flight training “really works”. Designed to inspire the next generation of aviators\, this program combines live flight training\, simulator sessions\, and expert ground instruction on a finely tuned extract of the key elements contained in the FAA Private Pilot Airman Certification Standards.\n \nProgram Highlights\n\nFlight Training:Scheduled flights operating a Cessna 172 “Skyhawk” equipped with Garmin G1000 advanced avionics\, alongside a FAA Certified Flight Instructor. All flight hours are logbook certified and count toward future aviation goals and future flight certification.\nSimulator Training:Scheduled flights operating our Advanced Aviation Training Devices (AATD)\, which are state-of-the-art fixed and full-motion flight simulators\, also under the guidance of a FAA Certified Flight Instructor. These hours are logbook certified and can be applied to future flight certification.\nGround Instruction:Pre-flight preparation and post-flight debriefings led by FAA Certified Flight Instructors\, which feature personalized student instruction. With a student to instructor ratio of 2 to 1 at all times\, students will receive unparalleled individualized attention.\n\nAviation Topics: Interactive sessions covering:\no  Weather\no  Air Traffic Management\no  Safety Analysis\no  Night Operations \no  Cross-Country Operations \nImportant Information\n\nStudents will be flying during day and evening hours and are required to wear closed-toed shoes\, long pants\, and socks covering the ankles during their flight times.\nPer TSA guidelines\, US citizenship is required for a student to participate in this flight training course.\n\n*Flight hours are not guaranteed due to unforeseen circumstances\, such as weather.
