DESCRIPTION:Water Trip \nWe will be taking tandem kayaks down the Verde River for a different perspective of the riparian habitat. The kayaks and shuttling are provided by the Outdoor Adventure Center at 551 N Main St\, Cottonwood\, AZ 86326. Experienced paddlers pilot every kayak so you can sit back and enjoy the river’s surprises. There’s always the chance that you might get wet so wear shoes and clothes that can take the water. Shorts are recommended depending on weather. A change of clothes in your car might make the rest of your day more pleasant if you do get wet. This trip is dependent upon the temperature of the water and weather. Weight limit – 250 lbs. You will be a passenger on this trip.  \nRating: 3\nTransportation: Self-drive to the Tuzigoot RAP\nCost: $50\nCapacity: 5\n  \n  \n  \nPart of the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival \nJoin us 100 miles North of Phoenix in North Central Arizona’s Verde Valley for the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival. Experience birding during the peak Spring migration season at Dead Horse Ranch State Park on the banks of the Verde River. Close proximity to the Verde\, Oak Creek\, Sycamore Creek\, and other perennial waters offers a wide selection of guided tours\, hikes\, and workshops in one of Arizona’s richest birding habitats. \nOur experienced guides have extensive knowledge of birds and the unique habitat that makes this region special. The festival\, presented each April by Friends of the Verde River\, is a purpose-driven community benefit organization and 501(c) 3 non-profit working to preserve one of the last perennial flowing rivers in the American Southwest. \nFestival site is at Dead Horse Ranch State Park.

DESCRIPTION:Learning more about the native plants and trees here in the Sedona area is a great way to enhance any hike. Our volunteer guides explain how plant life is interconnected with indigenous cultures\, pioneer settlers\, people in our contemporary times and wildlife. This interpretive experience is for both the beginner and experienced hiker\, lasting between  1½-2 hours with an elevation gain of 250 feet. Please bring water\, wear suitable footwear and meet in the Visitor Center a little before 1 p.m. \nHike is included with park entrance fee. \n\n$10.00 ages 14 and up\n$5.00 ages 7 – 13\nFree for ages 6 and under\n\nIf you have any questions\, please call (928) 282-6907. DESCRIPTION:The Arizona Important Bird Areas program is launching a streamlined survey protocol utilizing eBird. The surveys will be stationary\, 10 minute counts where all birds seen and heard are added to an eBird checklist. The same locations will be surveyed on every visit to create a dataset over time. Participants will receive a printed protocol document\, we will cover the logistics of such a survey and then do a few survey counts together. DESCRIPTION:Explore the night skies from the summit of Mt. Lemmon using Arizona’s LARGEST publicly available telescopes!  \n\n\nUnder the guidance of a professional\, visitors will enjoy a brief astronomy lecture\, a light dinner\, and an exclusive opportunity to observe astronomical objects and phenomena.  This five-hour program starts 2 hours before sunset and accommodates up to 28 people.  A minimum age of 7 is required for our attendees. \nMt Lemmon is located at 9\,157ft in elevation and is on average 20-30 degrees colder than Tucson – yes\, even in Spring and Summer. Guests are responsible for being aware of the weather and providing appropriate clothing for our cold adventure. Remember to wear comfortable closed-toed shoes. \n Our programs are weather dependent\, and we contact you on the morning of the program to confirm or cancel. \n*Late arrivals cannot be accommodated.  *Early departures cannot be accommodated.  *No alcohol or tobacco/vape products are allowed on-site. \n\n\n\nYouth (7-17): $62.50\n\n\nAdult: $88.50

SUMMARY:Arizona - Sonora Desert Museum: Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon Ancestral Pueblo Cliff Dwellings and Monumental Great Houses
DESCRIPTION:Explore the most significant archaeological geography in the United States. Our tour focuses on Puebloan archeological sites of southwest Colorado and northwestern New Mexico.  Ancestral Puebloans blended work and worship; they were master artisans\, farmers\, astronomers\, traders\, and skilled engineers\, creating an extensive trade network throughout the San Juan Basin and beyond. Highlights include two days at UNESCO World Heritage sites\, Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon National Parks\, as well as Monument Valley\, Aztec Ruins\, and the seldom-visited sites of Hovenweep and Lowry House ruins.  The tour culminates with two nights at the former Harvey House\, La Posada in Winslow\, followed by a day exploring Hopi Second Mesa. Our personal guides are naturalist Jesús García and geologist/geomorphologist Fred Nials\, highly educated in Native American history and in the fields of archaeology and anthropology. DESCRIPTION:Explore the cutting-edge of astronomical innovation on this 90-minute guided tour of the Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab at the University of Arizona. Learn how pioneering engineering\, optical science\, and precision manufacturing come together to create the world’s largest and most advanced telescope mirrors—each 8.4 meters (27 feet) in diameter. \nLocated beneath the U of A’s football stadium\, the Mirror Lab is the birthplace of mirrors for the Giant Magellan Telescope\, a revolutionary new instrument with a 25-meter primary mirror composed of seven of our 8.4-meter segments. This next generation of telescopes will transform astronomy—probing the early universe\, revealing the formation of the first stars\, and potentially detecting signs of life on distant exoplanets. \nThe tour begins at the historic Steward Observatory\, U of A’s first research department\, established in 1917. DESCRIPTION:The San Pedro River\, a narrow green oasis rippling through desert grassland\, is one of the last wild rivers in the Southwest and one of the most endangered. These 3-hour guided walks through desert grassland and among towering cottonwood trees will introduce you to the birds and other wildlife that make their homes in the sanctuary of the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area. River Walks depart from Casa de San Pedro Bed & Breakfast. \n$15 per person for adult members of SABO and/or guests of Casa de San Pedro Bed & Breakfast\, $20 for adult non-members.
