Phoenix Public Library: Science Cafe – Desert Adaptations

Explore science through this lecture series covering a wide range of topics from local experts in their field.

Desert Adaptations: How Animals and Plants adapt to the Sonoran Desert

Have you ever wondered how a jackrabbit survives the summer heat or how a saguaro cactus survives through intense drought? ASU Library’s Naturespace will go through some of the most known organisms in the Sonoran desert and discuss how they adapt to the harsh desert environment to survive. Learning these adaptations can be enriching for designers, engineers, and businesses who are creating biomimetic or nature-inspired designs and sustainable solutions.

Naturespace is an interactive natural history collection within ASU Hayden Library where visitors can find inspiration and creativity.

Speaker Christina Sullivan is a project coordinator whose degree was in biomimicry and environmental studies. She has worked for libraries for almost 20 years and has been managing the Naturespace for the last five years at Hayden Library. She helped curate the collection since the space became a reality in 2019.
