Natural History Institute: Thoughts on Thumb Butte – A Geological Journey

Rising prominently on the skyline, Thumb Butte has long sparked curiosity and wonder, but how much do we truly understand about this striking volcanic formation?

Join retired professor and geologist Beth Boyd for a fascinating look at Thumb Butte, one of Prescott’s most iconic natural landmarks. In this engaging presentation, Dr. Boyd explores what we know—and don’t know—about the geology and mysteries of this striking outcrop. She’ll review key theories, challenge common assumptions, and reveal the most likely explanation based on current evidence.

Don’t miss this chance to deepen your appreciation for Prescott’s diverse landscape and to hear the story the rocks have been waiting to tell.

Doors open at 6:30pm. The presentation starts at 7:00pm.

*The event is free, but space is limited, and registration is required. For those unable to attend in person, the talk will be live-streamed on our YouTube Channel.
